The young Brazilian again provided the big
positive for Louis van Gaal's side as the Reds swept aside San Jose
Earthquakes, while Memphis Depay got his first goal for the club
There has been a
new buzz around Manchester United of late thanks to their work in the transfer
market, but another excellent performance by Andreas Pereira in the 3-1 win
over San Jose Earthquakes suggests that the latest graduate of the club’s
production line might be about to steal some headlines away from his more
famous team-mates this season.
It is common wisdom that Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest gift to Manchester United was the youth structure which framed his entire spell as manager, and the legacy he left continues to point the club in the right direction long after his retirement.
In 2013-14 it was the emergence of Adnan Januzaj which provided the silver lining during a difficult campaign under David Moyes, while Louis van Gaal's first season in charge saw Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair given significant playing time.
And it is Pereira who could well be about to leave a great impression on the 2015-16 campaign, with his sensational summer giving United fans plenty to cheer.
Having collected the club's Under-21 Player of the Year award last term, there had been some suggestion the 19-year-old might take the Paul Pogba route out of Old Trafford by running down his contract. But a new three-year deal was signed soon after he made his Premier League debut against Tottenham, and he has gone on to excel with both country and now club over the summer months.
First there was his stirring campaign with Brazil at the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, including a magnificent goal in the final defeat to Serbia, weaving past four players before firing home. And now he has added a couple of excellent performances for United's first team to his resume.
